2013 Masters Review: Englishmen suffer as Augusta hurts them once more
With Adam Scott having been crowned masters champion this year in a dramatic play-off against Argentina's Angel Cabrera, another opportunity to end England’s major curse slips by.
The 32-year-old from Adelaide became the first Australian ever to finish at the top of a Masters leader board and claim the green jacket. This makes the pain even worse for us ‘Poms’ to handle as we are still notorious for cracking under pressure if you ask the Aussies. He played a final round that promised so much but again the putter was his achilles heel, missing from close range at the first for birdie and the second for eagle in the final round, as well as a whole host of chances during the front nine in the final 18-holes.
Had those putts gone in, the momentum could have swung Westwood’s way. He also admitted that he did not play the par-fives well enough throughout the week.
The US Open in June is now England’s next hope to end the 17 year wait for a major
champion.
